English translation:

BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING

The extraordinary beginning of our lives starts from an ancestral, almost metaphysical awareness. Then, almost always, we forget everything and flatten into routine. I, however, remember my birth well. Or rather, I remember the days immediately following it: the sudden awakening of a lucid mind that unexpectedly found itself managing a completely alien vessel, asking itself in bewilderment: "And how on earth do you drive this tin can?"

They say newborns have no memory, that the first few months are nothing more than a thick fog of instincts, feedings, and primordial needs. And yet, I was there. Even before my eyes learned to focus on the outlines of reality, my psyche was already alight: a fully awake spark floating in a sea of new, intense, and violently physical sensations.

My very first memory wasn't a sharp image, but a profound existential conflict. I was in my mother's arms, feeling the absolute warmth of her skin. That contact—which to anyone else should have been purely comforting—was also perceived by my mind as a boundary, an insurmountable limit. I was there, enclosed in a small body that already possessed its own specific weight, a ballast that I didn't recognize as mine at all. I felt like a sudden guest, a traveler who had stepped off at an unknown station with no luggage. I didn't remember the departure, and I hadn't the faintest idea of the destination. And above all, I wondered what the return policy was.

I still clearly remember the questions that hadn't yet taken the form of language, an inner dialogue that would keep me company for years: "Where am I? And why right here?" It was as if I had never truly wanted to separate from my Creator and from that unknown, spiritual place where we all come from.

I would love to know how many of you have the same kind of memory. An ancient memory, and certainly not a false one. The kind where you recorded a scent and a feeling so strong that its reality cannot be doubted. One that you have never let go of.

Arrivai in un giorno di Dicembre. Cominciò allora la mia avventura. Come la vostra.
